How do I fix WordPress maintenance mode?

If the site is stuck in maintenance mode after an update, log in via FTP or your hosting file manager and delete the .maintenance file in the root WordPress directory. Refresh the front end and the site should load normally. If it does not, check for incomplete updates and run them manually from the dashboard.
